The growing trend in weddings towards sustainability and eco-friendliness is part of a larger global shift towards more environmentally conscious practices.

Key aspects of the sustainability trend in weddings include:

  1. Eco-friendly venues: Couples are choosing venues that prioritise sustainability, such as outdoor locations that reduce energy consumption or hiring locations with eco-certifications.
  2. Sustainable decor: Biodegradable or reusable decor items are becoming popular. This includes using natural elements like flowers and plants that can be replanted. Decorations made from recycled or sustainable materials include logs and signage.
  3. Ethical attire: There is a rise in wedding attire made from sustainable fabrics. Also hiring wedding dresses or formal suits is becoming more popular.
  4. Local and organic catering: Couples are opting for caterers who use local, organic and sustainably sourced food. This not only supports local businesses but also reduces the carbon footprint associated with food transportation.
  5. Digital invitations: There is a move towards digital invitations and RSVPs to reduce paper waste.
  6. Eco-friendly transportation: Using electric or hybrid vehicles for transportation is gaining popularity. Or encouraging your guests to carpool is another way couples are making their weddings more sustainable.
  7. Waste reduction: Efforts to minimise waste include supplying compostable dinnerware. Setting up recycling stations at the venue and donating leftover food is a good way to reduce waste.
  8. Eco-conscious favours: Wedding favours are being chosen with sustainability in mind. So seed packets, potted plants, or charitable donations in guests’ names.

Capture the rustic charm and natural beauty of the countryside on your special day!

Nestled in the heart of Hampshire, the Old Shooting School at Apsley Farms is a picturesque haven for couples seeking a wedding that will feel like a fairytale. You’ll be greeted by sweeping vistas of wildflower meadows, rolling hills and romantic woodlands. And endless skies that stretch as far as the eye can see.

Make memories that last a lifetime

At Apsley Farms your wedding is uniquely yours. The site can offer huge flexibility – whether you envision an intimate gathering or a grand celebration, we’ll ensure every detail is tailored to your preferences.

The 20 acre venue is set in 1000 acres of rolling farm and woodland. We are a dry hire venue (use of the field only) so you can bring your own suppliers and choose to work with whoever suits you best. There is ample space for parking and good access to the site. The site has no facilities other than running water for drinking. We offer exclusive hire for a full week to allow for a relaxed setup and clearing the site.

Extras can include the use of other areas of the farm for photoshoots, eg. seasonal crops in fields, woodland walks or riverside hideaways. Sustainability is at the heart of what we do! We can help source logs for firepits from our woodlands, with access to greenery and wild flowers for decorations.

Apsley Farms is where unforgettable moments are made

Sustainability is at the heart of Apsley Farms

Apsley Farms is a family-run farm on the outskirts of Andover, Hampshire, producing crops for our Biogas plant, generating enough green energy to heat 8,500 houses all year round.

Our Sustainable farming methods are 100% waste free. Apsley Farms uses modern farming techniques and equipment to maximise efficiency while harvesting arable crops to feed into the digesters. With a carbon footprint of around one-fifth of ‘natural gas’, the biomethane production provides sustainable fuel to help meet the UK’s energy needs and climate targets. By working within a circular economy, the team at Apsley Farms is proud of what has been achieved towards reducing our carbon footprint. But our ambitions go further still and we’re committed to making our operations completely carbon neutral, and closer towards achieving Net Zero.
