The natural choice for historic grounds

We love to see our mulch making a real difference to gardens and plots across the country, and we always enjoy receiving photos from customers showing it in use.

We are proud to see our peat-free mulch enhancing the historic grounds of Winchester College, where sustainability and exceptional horticulture go hand in hand.

Head of Grounds and Gardens David Rustell and his team care for more than 11 acres of formal gardens across the College estate. Their work spans the traditional College quad, the gardens surrounding the Old College Sick House, the tranquil College War Memorial Garden, and the Warden’s Garden, with its woodland, herbaceous borders, and natural chalk stream.

Maintaining such a historic and varied landscape to an exceptional standard requires expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to sustainability; and we are delighted that our mulch plays a part in supporting that work.

Produced as a by-product of our anaerobic digestion process, our mulch is part of a truly sustainable cycle that also generates renewable biogas for the national grid. Made entirely from purpose-grown plant crops including maize, oats, and rye, it contains no peat and no waste, just nutrient-rich matter that improves soil health, while giving beds and borders an immaculate finish throughout the seasons.

As well as adding nutrients into the soil, our mulch helps lock in moisture and reduce weeding, keeping gardens looking their best year round.

Bravo to David and the team for the exceptional standards they maintain across such a remarkable historic site.
