Celebrating a major milestone

We recently delivered our 100,000th bag of peat-free mulch – a major milestone for the whole team here at Apsley Farms.

What started as a by-product has grown into something thousands of UK gardeners rely on every year.

We are extremely proud to be demonstrating how sustainable crop production and clean energy can work hand in hand – and, at the same time, play a small part in helping the UK move away from peat.

Here at Apsley Farms, we use our on-site biogas plant to turn locally grown crops into renewable energy.

Our mulch is a natural by-product of the process, and is rich in nutrients and free from peat, waste and plastic.

Certified for organic use by the Soil Association, our mulch is used by a number of teams at RHS Garden Wisley and is delivered by our own fleet of drivers across Hampshire and beyond.

The biogas process also produces food-grade liquid CO2, which we supply to drinks manufacturers and use to make dry ice for the pharmaceutical and food industries.

We are the only operation in the UK producing BRCGS-accredited liquid CO2 from a renewable biogas source.

If you would like to know more about how our mulch works, we give plenty of guidance on our website, or give us a call and we can talk you through what might work best for your garden.

About Apsley Farms

Apsley Farms, located in Hampshire, UK, utilizes crops in its anaerobic digestion (AD) plant to produce biogas. The process converts the crops into biogas, which is then used to generate renewable electricity and heats thousands of homes via the national gas grid. The byproducts, including nutrient-rich digestate, are used as natural fertilizer, enhancing soil health and reducing the need for chemical inputs. Apsley farms also capture CO2 and refine it to food-grade quality to find out more about click here.
